The Hidden Power of Anti-Oxidants

Antioxidants are molecular substances that slow the oxidation of other molecules. Antioxidants are needed for good health and well being, as they help remove problem causing free radicals.

Free radicals are little trouble makers, as they cause chain reactions which in turn damage cells and cause other problems. Antioxidants break the process and help prevent further damage. Free radicals are known to cause cancer, so it’s important to make sure you get antioxidants in your diet.

Foods Rich In Anti-Oxidants

Key antioxidants are beta-carotene (carrots, tomato, broccoli), lycopene, vitamin C (citrus fruits, green peppers), vitamin E (nuts, seeds, whole grains), selenium (fish, shellfish, grains, eggs) and vitamin A, as well as other substances.

If you recognise the names of the anti-oxidants above you’ll probably already know where they come from. They are most commonly found in fruit and vegetables, another reason to make sure you eat plenty.

Research suggests you should also supplement your diet by taking multi-vitamins to make sure you get your recommended daily amount (RDA).

You can also boost your antioxidant intake by drinking a cup of green tea a day, it’ll also give your metabolism a kick to help you burn fat. Other teas worth trying are Pu-erh and Oolong tea .

Remember:

  1. Make sure you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables rich in antioxidants
  2. Give green tea a try or take a multi-vitamin.
