“You Won’t Get Fat Eating Vegetables”

Eat more vegetables. Don’t just increase the quantity you eat, but also increase the variation in type of vegetables you eat. There are loads of tasty vegetables outside the mainstream ones you see everyday, you’ve just got to get adventurous and try something new.

You get loads of nutrients from vegetables, in fact they’re packed with them. You body needs these nutrients to repair damaged tissues and grow new tissues as well as keep your immune system and other bodily functions working properly.

4 Quick Veggie Tips:

  1. Try to eat as many different types of vegetables as you can. And aim to eat vegetables with different colours; reds, greens, oranges etc. They all contain different nutrients and the more varied you are with your selection, the more benefit you’ll receive.
  2. Don’t sauté, roast or fry your veggies in butters or oils. It’s much more healthy to boil them, or even better to steam cook them. This reduces the amount of fat that gets added to the vegetables and also helps preserve more of the nutrients, which some cooking methods reduce.
  3. Try and eat only fresh or frozen vegetables. Vegetables that have been processed or canned will have lost a higher percentage of the nutrients than fresh veggies or those that are frozen soon after harvesting.
  4. Keep trying new vegetables, it’ll stop you getting bored, and you never know, you might actually like them!

With fresh vegetables you can have a “free for all”, no-one ever got fat from eating lots of fresh veggies, provided you don’t cover them in butter/oil or any other nasty. If you get “peckish”, reach for some fresh vegetables to snack on instead of the usual junk.
